What is Body Trust?

Stop diet cycle

Heal from trauma and shame

Body Autonomy and Agency

  • Body Trust recognizes that willpower and restriction actually create the bingeing and shame they claim to fix.

  • Body dissatisfaction isn't just a "thought"! It’s a physical experience. We work to lower the volume of the inner critic so you can feel safer in your own skin. EMDR and Internal Family System can help tremendously for that.

  • You are the expert on your body. This framework returns the power to you, helping you make choices based on nourishment rather than "shoulds."

If you have spent years or decades at war with your body, the idea of "trusting" it might feel impossible. You may have been taught that your body is a problem to be solved, a project to be managed, or an entity that simply cannot be trusted to feed itself.

Body Trust® is the antidote to that cycle.

Developed by the Be Nourished founders, Body Trust is a weight-inclusive, trauma-informed framework that helps you move away from external rules and back toward your own internal wisdom. Whether we meet in-person at my Kirkland, WA office or via online therapy across Washington state, my goal is to help you establish a peaceful, reliable partnership with the only home you live in: your body.

Why Body Trust Matters in Healing

In a world that profits from your self-doubt, choosing to trust yourself is a revolutionary act. When we work together, whether you are sitting on my couch in Kirkland or logging in from Seattle, Spokane, or beyond in Washington state, we address the root causes of food and body image distress.

Body Trust FAQs

  • Q: If I trust my body, won't I just eat 'junk' food forever?

A: Rebellion only exists where there is restriction. When we remove the "forbidden" status of foods, they eventually lose their power over you. Through the Body Trust process, you move toward a place where all foods find their balance in a way that feels physically and mentally supportive.

  • Q: How is Body Trust different from Intuitive Eating or Health at Every Size (HAES)?
A: While these frameworks share the goal of body autonomy, they serve different roles in your healing and Body Trust is the missing piece of the puzzle.

    • Health at Every Size® (HAES®): This is the foundation of my practice. It is a social justice framework that shifts the focus from weight to well-being. It asserts that health is not a moral obligation and that every person, regardless of body size, race, or ability, deserves access to dignified, weight-neutral healthcare.

    • Intuitive Eating (IE): This is often seen as the "how-to" for reconnecting with hunger and fullness. While IE is a wonderful tool for some, it can be challenging for neurodiverse brains. If you have ADHD or are Autistic, you may experience executive dysfunction or differences in interoception (the ability to feel internal signals). For many neurodivergent people, hunger cues don't "scream", they whisper, or they only show up as a sudden headache or a mood shift.

    • Body Trust: This is the deep, relational work. Instead of following a rigid set of "intuitive" rules that might not align with how your brain processes signals, Body Trust focuses on accommodation and kindness. We work to find a way of feeding yourself that honors your sensory needs and your brain’s unique wiring, without the shame of "doing it wrong."

  • Q: Does this mean I have to love my body all the time?

A: Not at all. Body Trust is about liberation and neutrality. It’s about being able to feed yourself and treat yourself with dignity even on the days you don't particularly like how you look.

  • Q: Is it okay if I still want to lose weight?

A: This is one of the most honest questions I hear. We live in a culture that relentlessly tells us our worth is tied to our size, so it makes sense that a part of you still holds onto that desire. You don't have to be 'perfectly' over the desire for weight loss to start Body Trust.

In our work together, we hold space for that desire without letting it drive the bus. We shift the focus from "weight-loss goals" to "well-being behaviors", like nourishing your body, improving your sleep, or managing stress. Whether you are coming to my Kirkland office or meeting me online across Washington, we treat that desire for weight loss with compassion, while gently moving toward a life where your happiness isn't on hold until your body changes.
